The Sun gives you the news you just can’t get anywhere else: ONE in 20 British schoolkids thinks war-mongering dictator Adolf Hitler was a German football coach, a shock survey has revealed. It’s not that shocking. Most football coaches are genocidal dictators bent on world domination and fascism. Frankly, if you asked me to choose between having a pint with Hitler or Sam Allardyce I’d go with the Nazi who at least doesn’t look as if he suffers from body odour problems. That said, Hitler never shuts up about his favoured formation, 4-4-Jew. Similar posts No Related…

Just reading about this serial killer in the US. Is there some link between size of population and the propensity for killers of this type? Maybe it’s because the more people you have in your country the more likely you are to have mentalists like that. Or maybe it’s because the size of the country means it’s easier to operate in a kind of isolation. I don’t know. We’ve never had a serial killer, have we? That said the numbers of women who have gone missing in Ireland, especially in Leinster, over the last few years would strike you as not particularly random. I…

Did you ever know anyone whose luggage came out on the conveyor belt first after a flight? I did. His name was Malcolm. A tall man with impossibly dry skin. Every time he got on a flight his luggage was first out when he got to his destination. He would tell me this every time I saw him and I had to admit a certain amount of jealousy as my luggage was never first, or second, or even in the top 10. I’d say my bags came out somewhere between 93rd and 145th. Always. Not Malcolm though. He’d position himself somewhere in the middle of the carousel and when the bags started coming he…

Would the fund drive get the necessary momentum to reach the target of 100 pledgers? Or would it fizzle?Happily it didn't fizzle and within a few days we'd actually exceeded the target. So now we're collecting and would like to invite all pledgers to submit their donation to Outvesting.org. Thanks again.

A blog post by Pat Phelan ignited a fresh wave of conversation around the subject of startup funding in Ireland. Anton Mannering came at it from another angle and both discussions reminded me of a similar one a few months ago sparked by Joe Drumgoole's post to Web2Ireland.While each debate has thrown up a number of good ideas there's a certain level of frustration with the realization that these discussions tend to go around in circles, often ending up with a consensus that the government needs to do more/better. One story on the local papers caught my eye this week. The Limerick Leader carries the story of 233 complaints being received by Limerick City council concerning local authority housing. Arising from those complaints, just one person was evicted. At a meeting of the city’s joint policing committee, housing official Donal Moore informed those present that a total of 233 complaints have been received to date in 2009. 185 of the complaints had been resolved. Arising from those complaints over 300 people,  have been interviewed by council staff during investigations of the complaints.

OK, maybe actually asking them to cancel is going a bit far. But you should ask if they’d like to. Seriously. Times are tough. Some of your donors will have lost their jobs, others will be getting by on a lower income than before. Most will be feeling uncertain and fearful about the future. Show them that you understand where they’re at. Next time you write to them, let them know that if they feel they need to cancel, or reduce, their direct debit that’s OK. And make it easy for them with a nice big tick box to that effect on the donation form. Of course, while you’re…

Under the ‘give what you can afford’ section, the tick boxes start off at £100, then go £50, £25, £10 and then all the way down to £0.50 before finishing with £250,000 (their anticipated legal bill for the THORP campaign).  The combination of the very low and very high amounts really drives home the message that no gift is too small - or too large. Even fifty pence can help. And apparently one donor did give £200,000.

  • Does the DUP understand the TUV?

    Turgon
    6 Nov 2009 | 9:41 pm
Fair_deal has recently written an excellent article on Open Unionism on things the DUP should do to minimise further damage at the Westminster and Stormont elections. I would disagree with very little of it, though (I suspect like fair_deal) I would like the DUP in addition to move its political stance. The DUP’s discourse about, and attacks on the TUV have always been fairly vitriolic as indeed have the TUV’s on the DUP. It sometimes seems as if the DUP feel that the TUV have no right to exist and that that is what helps breed the vitriol: the TUV’s hatred of the DUP is…

There are no McDevitt’s on Menin Gate (Belgium) but there are thousands of other Irish names amongst the 58,000 for whom there is no grave. The Irish Peace tower stands on a hill over the final battleground where the 16th and 36th divisions pushed the German lines back in June 1917. There are some wonderful inscriptions as you walk in. They say different things but have a single message best summed up in the words of Tom Kettle: To dice with death, and, oh! They’ll give you rhyme And reason; one will call the thing sublime, And one decry it in a knowing tone. So here, while the mad…

Nice spot in Hansard from Jeff Peel… Lord Kilclooney: My Lords, I had not intended to speak in this debate, but having heard some of the contributions, I find it very interesting. I speak as a happy Christian, an Ulster Protestant and a great friend of Islam. The Deputy Chairman of Committees (Lord Colwyn): My Lords, I think that the noble Lord has missed the opportunity to speak in the gap, which was before the noble Lord, Lord Taverne. I stand open to suggestion. Lord Kilclooney: I was going to be very brief. Perhaps the humanists still want to hear my contribution. Noble Lords: No.

This picture almost speaks for itself, doesn’t it? This is the story that’s been convulsing Tyrone – or at least providing an opportunity to sound off on the phone-ins – about a Protestant farmer out by Ardboe who got up in the morning to find his sheep had been spray-painted in a tricolour scheme. God help me, I couldn’t help a chuckle, although the farmer, who now can’t sell his sheep, is entitled to be annoyed about it. On one level, I suppose, this is of a piece with the sort of low-level sectarianism you get a lot of in north Antrim, Coleraine and such…

What does John Rees have in common with Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor? On the face of it, not very much. And on the face of it, there’s nothing much to be said about Pope Benny’s appointment of Cormac to two positions in the Roman Curia, at the Congregation for Bishops and at whatever Propaganda Fidei is calling itself these days. If you’re willing to take the statement from the Catholic Communications Network as the last word on the matter, this is quite simply the Holy Father registering his esteem for a distinguished prince of the Church by giving him these…

It beats me why anyone would want to be leader of the South Down and Londonderry Party. And yet, incredibly, two people do want it, with both social development minister Margaret Ritchie (South Down) and incumbent deputy leader Alasdair McDonnell (South Belfast) now having declared themselves. What’s even odder, as Brian Feeney points out in a pithy analysis, is that the SDLP has been in existence since 1970 and this is the first time it’s ever had a contested leadership election. Gerry Fitt was leader at the foundation (had anyone chosen to challenge him, they would have soon…

The British press do like their hardy perennials, don’t they? Every year when the A-level results come out, the Daily Telegraph has a big photo feature on the front page. And every year, Private Eye runs a spoof item where the Telegraph reports the shocking news that attractive young blondes are doing well in their exams. While the Eye’s humour is a bit frayed at the edges these days, that one works because of its deadly accuracy. This was the second party conference since the Forza Nuova lash-up with the Tories was agreed, and of course the big initiative was at the centre of things. I get spammed quite a lot, most blogs do.  It’s rarely a problem as we have spam filters and blockers to catch them and stop them clogging up our comments. I get worried about the kind of people who spam me, and their spam content. Of course I get the usual 72 question mark spam, the people who say they love my site and link back to their web cam site and as always the gay sex sites who mistake my use of reference to Twink. But I check in my spam folder every now and again just to make sure no normal people have been trapped. Here’s a few of the more interesting messages that…
  • I don’t seem so weird now, do I?

I’ve got a bit of a rep for being a filth monger.  The descriptions of this here site on some other people’s sites and blogrolls warn of the content here.  That’s fair enough I suppose, even if I do have a get out of jail free safe button there on the side, just in case someone looks over your shoulder. It’s no secret that I’m quite partial to the odd fetish.  Lesbians, stockings, strap ons (watching or receiving, the red heads choice), red heads, and feet. I love feet.  You all know this.  I love toes, socks, strappy shoes, anything to do with women’s…

Over the years, I’ve penetrated many a female.  I’ve also got a habit of not keeping my mouth in check when the glorious moment of penetration is upon us.  Being the ever generous person that I am, I’m going to share some such verbal gems so that you can store them in your memory banks and not use them to cock block yourself. You’re welcome: 1.   Can you try and tighten up this time? 2.   No way, yer ma has the same mole! 3.   Jesus, you’re drier than a camel’s nuts in a sand storm. 4.   This is what a big boy does with it. 5.   Are you sure…

She’s from England, I think.  She speaks with an American accent, which is weird.  Although she used to sound like Justin Lee Collins, so it’s not all bad I suppose. She’s madder than a bag of psyche ward shite, but she’s also partial to a bottle of red hair dye.  Which is nice.  But being nuttier than a monkey turd in a monkey nut factory means she also dyes her hair pink or blue of purple or baby vomit green or unicorn spunk turquoise.  But who doesn’t love a mad bint who is two drummers short of a doobie brothers?  You could fuck her all day if you…

I was in the queue at Ben Gurion airport when the Israeli security forces finally caught up with me. Probably, I should have listened to that little voice telling me to exit via the West Bank and Jordan, but I simply didn't have the cash to hand to do it.So I risked exiting as I came, and they pulled me aside.First, I was taken to a side room and strip-searched. Then they went to remove my bag. I protested, as images flashed before my eyes of getting fitted up for heroin smuggling or the like. Eventually, unable to remove my hands from the bag, they agreed to let me dress and search it in…
  • Stephen Gately RIP, but let's not pretend he was Gandhi

    18 Oct 2009 | 10:36 am
Stephen Gately was a moderately talented singer and disco dancer. He was not Gandhi, or Martin Luther King, or Jesus Christ. The cult of celebrity that led to firstly the virtually state funeral he had yester with thousands outside the church and secondly the wall-to-wall coverage of his death is to me sadly symptomatic of a society in thrall to fame.Let's not forget, another man was buried yesterday - a man who was a talented athlete, who volunteered at his local scout troop, who was immensely talented at his job, training our air corps pilots and who tragically died last Monday.Yet on RTE's…
  • Cliftonville FC 3 Glasgow Celtic 0

    13 Oct 2009 | 7:02 pm
No, that's not a typo. It really happened.North Belfast part-timers Cliftonville wallopped mighty Glasgow Celtic 3-0 last night and it could actually have been easily 6.Few things on Earth are likely to unite the loyalist denizens of Ibrox and the Irish republicans of Ardoyne. But this astonishing victory by Ireland's oldest club over the famous Glasgow Celtic just might.Fair enough, it wasn't quite Celtic's first XI. But there were numerous players on display for the Scots whose individual alleged values far exceeds that of Cliftonville's entire team, and Solitude stadium too.My suggestion?
  • The tricky task of finding a Ceann Comhairle

    12 Oct 2009 | 3:13 pm
The Irish parliament needs a speaker, after the last one was caught swanning around the planet like Marie-Antoinette at the taxpayers' expense. This is a problem for Fianna Fail, because while the ideal would be for a member of an opposition party to take the chair (thus boosting the government's slender majority), it's unlikely that anyone from Labour or Sinn Fein can be bought off, and Fine Gael will have those who might be tempted on a tight leash in the hope of forcing an election or change of government.Hence we're seeing some strange names popping up. The latest is Trevor 'I won't lead…
  • Let's ditch England

    5 Oct 2009 | 6:28 pm
As I wandered around the sunny squares of Glasgow today, I couldn't help but recall that once upon a time Belfast sort of looked like this, before it all got blown up.As I wandered the redbrick Victorian squares and terraces, I remembered that Belfast has much in common with this town, just as Dublin and Edinburgh architecturally are so reminiscent of each other.Outside the Buchanan galleries, laden with bottles of whisky, I overheard a lost Japanese tourist ask two smoking old dears how to get to the Holiday Inn.'Sure we wouldn't know,' they told him apologetically. 'We're not from this part…

Ok I am not going to say what a bad blogger I am or anything, but when you forget your password to your blog it is a worrying thing! Anyhow even though I may not have posted much lately I have been out and about taking pictures. The day after Damiens superb web awards, I was asked to do a photoshoot by Jenny Greene, 2fm DJ and all round great mate. She has an album out this Friday called “The Electric Disco” its a 2 disc compilation of some great auld tunes, but the main reason to buy it would be because one of the many images I took has made it onto the album sleeve. I am well…

    12 Oct 2009 | 3:21 pm
So the Irish Web Awards were on last Saturday night and I would like to convey some opinions I have of the event itself. This is its second year running and to be honest, I found the whole evening awfull, I shall go more into that in a while, but it may help to know more about the preceeding weeks beforehand. The guy above is some guy called Damien Mulley, he runs a blog (click the link if you are bothered) and seems to organise awards too, one for his mates in the blog world called the Irish Blog Awards and then this crap the Irish Web Awards. It seems anyone who wants can be nominated for…

Well what a day, busy in work but the excitement for me was at 2pm today, where I was invited as a blogger to the launch of Vodafone 360. What an amazing device it seems to be, totally down my road since it is a social media whore on a very nice samsung phone. But as a photoblogger why would I be excited, well Dita Von Teese was going to be there too. Happy days for my camera, or at least that wa the plan, its a shame though that one of the PR companies for Vodafone did not want me to take any photos of the event itself which for me as a photoblogger took all the fun out of it. Ah well I got…

Well where did all my August posts go, oh thats right I hardly touched my webpage during August, due to the fact as many know I was busy decking the whole of my garden by myself, but anyhow you dont really want to know about that since you are here for pictures. So from one photowalk picture to another photowalk picture, this time with an incredible story to boot. Over the past year or so I have been followed on Twitter by John Fair who is the corporate and sales manager of Mondello Park, Irelands national motor racing track. Now I dunno why he followed me initially but over time I found out…

Well after all the planning across the world, Scott Kelbys 2nd worldwide photowalk got underway yesterday and I had the honour of leading a fantastic group of 46 people for the Dublin event. Rather then telling you all about it, everyone has been putting their images up on Pix.ie, many thanks to Marcus for allowing us to use the site for the event. Looking though those photos will give you much more of an idea of what the day was like and can be found at this very handy webpage. Thanks again to everyone for coming along and making the Dublin walk such a success. (Photo above taken by Elliot…

  • Ireland - Back to the Arsehole of Nowhere

    4 Nov 2009 | 6:53 am
My bloggy friend Thrifty posted a link on Facebook -'Ireland is a disaster . . . leave now and enjoy your life'which is an article from the Irish Times about the recent HUGE exodus of Irish people from the Emerald Isle. I've ranted about my love hate relationship with Ireland before -> here. When I first read the stories I thought to myself, shite - this is identical to my own set of reasons for leaving Ireland in 1988. I felt sorry for the new generation who would have to retrace my steps to find a better life. Ireland is fucked yet again - despite being the strongest economy in Europe only…
  • Siquijor, Island Paradise, Visayas, Philippines

    28 Oct 2009 | 2:04 am
I realise it's been a bit quiet in this bloggy corner recently but for good reason. We managed to notch up another country (Philippines) on our quest to conquer the world. It was a bit of a roll of the dice since it's typhoon season in these parts and Northern Philippines just got hammered hard by 2 typhoons in the last 2 weeks.I am happy to report that the South was hot and sunny and spectacular. Getting to our destination (the island of Siquijor) was not exactly a walk in the park, but when you want to escape the crowds, you usually have to put in a little extra effort or in this case A LOT…
  • Hiking Stage 2 of the Maclehose Trail - Tai Long Wan

    19 Oct 2009 | 7:43 am
Tai Long Wan, Sai KungHere are some pics from a recent 13.5km hike in Sai Kung. Strangely enough, this was a disaster and jinx free hike so no tales of woe to recount. Words cannot fully describe the beauty of this place, at least not my words, so I won't even bother trying - All this a stones throw away from one of the most congested cities in the world! - I love this place! - Enjoy!p.s. I know I need to invest in a decent camera!Tags: ..Hiking Stage 2 of the Maclehose Trail - Tai Long Wan..If you like what you've read, why not subscribe to updates click here Paddy in Buenos Aires
  • A Scarey HAIRY Tale

    14 Oct 2009 | 10:37 am
I have to confess I have much more body hair than I am comfortable with. I am part hairy ape or so it seems. It may come to pass, I become bald someday and I'll regret these anti-hair words, but right now in my 'prime' things are getting out of control. As a teen, I foolishly decided to rid my myself of some newly formed but unwanted body hair. I shaved my arm pits and it was all grand until 3 days later when the stubble regrowth gave me such an itch and a rash that I was walking around for days with a bad ass body builder pose, so as not to have any friction on my tender arm pits. With the on…
  • F**K You for the Voodoo that You Do - Boo Hoo!

    9 Oct 2009 | 8:01 pm
I seriously think I've been Hexed. It all started yesterday. I was supposed to go hiking with a friend, on a as yet unconquered picturesque trail and when I checked the weather the night before it was supposed to be clear and sunny.I awoke to heavy rain beating against the window. The forecast had changed drastically to cloudy and showers (the weather changes in an instant in these parts). I was bummed, but we had to postpone the hike for another day. Everything went arse over tits downhill from then on.So as not to write-off the day completely, I decided I had but 2 simple tasks to complete…
